Navratangarh Fort

Navratangarh fort is situated in Sisai block of the Gumla district. It was one of the capitals of the Nagvanshi Dynasty, which ruled parts of what is now the state of Jharkhand.

Navratangarh fort was constructed by King Durjan Sal between 1636 to 1639. The palace was a five-storeyed structure with its "water-gate" and garh-khai (moat) arrangement. It has a kiaclmy (court), a treasury house, and a prison cell with its underground dungeon.

Bairisal, the Nagvanshi ruler, relocated his capital from Khukhragarh to Navratangarh. Navratangarh was strategically located due to its proximity to forests, hills, and rivers. In 2009, Navratnagarh was designated as a heritage site for preservation.

Durjan Sal ruled the kingdom for the longest. According to the evidence found so far, he had built the fort here in 1571. It is said that this fort was of 9 storeys, so it was given the name of Navratangarh. The remains of this fort have been a source of attraction for local tourists as well as archaeologists and historians for years.
