चंडील डैम जमशेदपà¥à¤° से लगà¤à¤— ४० किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है। यह राषà¥à¤Ÿà¥à¤°à¤¿à¤¯ राजमारà¥à¤— संखà¥à¤¯à¤¾ -३३ से मातà¥à¤° ५ किलोमीटर की दूरी पर सà¥à¤¥à¤¿à¤¤ है। सà¥à¤µà¤°à¥à¤£à¤°à¥‡à¤–ा नदी पर इस बांध का निरà¥à¤®à¤¾à¤£ १९९० मे किया गया था। इसका मूल उदेशà¥à¤¯ औदà¥à¤¯à¥‹à¤—िक संबनà¥à¤§à¤¿à¤¤ था। आज यह जगह परà¥à¤¯à¤Ÿà¤¨ के रूप मे विकसित हो गया है।
सà¥à¤µà¤°à¥à¤£à¤°à¥‡à¤–ा नदी को रोककर बनाये गये इस बाà¤à¤§ की लंबाई २२० मीटर और इस बांध से जल की गहराई १९० मीटर है। यहाठजल का परिमाण इतना विशाल है मानो कà¥à¤·à¤¿à¤¤à¤¿à¤œ का मिलना सागर जैसा पà¥à¤°à¤¤à¥€à¤¤ होता है।
The Ministry of Tourism, GoI has revamped the scheme and launched Swadesh Darshan 2.0 with a holistic mission to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations across the country. The Ministry of Tourism has notified 45 destinations in 23 States/UTs and Project Development & Management consultants (PDMCs) have been selected for each of the respective States. From Jharkhand State one Project under Eco Tourism Category Chandil Dam located in Saraikela Kharsawan District has been selected under Swadesh Darshan 2.0. for comprehensive development.
Chandil is one of the more scenic places in Jharkhand. Part of the Seraikela District and surrounded by many water bodies, and lush forests, the region is famous for the Chandil Dam and its expansive reservoir, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, and other smaller dams and reservoirs. Located closer to East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur), and about 2.5 hours from Ranchi, Chandil is a popular ‘quick getaway’ destination for travelers from Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Travelers on visits to pilgrim centers nearby often combine such trips with leisure and picnic trips.

Watersports
The serene waters of the Chandil Dam reservoir surrounded by lush forests and islands present a great boating leisure experience. The boating centre offers guided rides of different kinds deep into the expansive waters of the reservoir. All rides are ticketed, and adhere to safety practices
Birds
Birds of various kinds add to the visual beauty of Chandil's sprawling waters. A good pair of binoculars will help in relishing the sight of beautiful birds
Cage Culture
One of the main leisure activities / experiences at Chandil Dam reservoir is Cage Culture. Cage Culture at Chandil is acclaimed as a remarkable case study of fish farming in India's inland open waters. Travelers can see, observe and learn the methods of fish cultivation and understand the economic and social benefits to the larger economy of the region. The initiative named ‘Chandil Dam Visthapit Swablami Sahkari Samiti’ is one of the first examples of cage culture in a reservoir by displaced people. More than treating tourists to an experience to observe and learn the practice of cage culture fishing, it also provides a healthy means of livelihood for about 2,000 families, as fish is supplied to nearby towns as well as cities in neighboring states as well.

Chandil Dam
The Chandil dam is a part of Subernarekha Multipurpose project. It has been constructed on the river Subernarekha near a small town called Chandil in Jharkhand state of India. The project is a tripartite initiative among the three eastern states, Jharkhand (earlier Bihar, West Bengal, and Orissa). Chandil Dam is an important irrigation and drinking water source for the surrounding areas, and it also serves as a major source of electricity for the region. The dam has a total installed capacity of 120 MW and generates about 489 million units of electricity annually. The boating area located at the eastern shore of the reservoir, next to the dam wall. The place receives high tourist footfall. The existing boating jetty and the concrete ghats and platform at the lower terrace is accessed by 6m wide pathway sloping down from the paid parking area. Along the pathway on either side have been occupied by local café and shops selling snacks and packaged food and beverages. Currently the Boating activities, parking and fish farming is being maintained by Chandil Bandh Visthapit Matsy S.S.S Ltd. Beyond the jetty area there is a newly done forest trail till the Cage culture point.
Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary
Deriving its name from 'Dalma Mai', a local goddess, the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is part of an elephant corridor and is an exciting place for simple wildlife viewing pleasures. Under the category of 'Dry Peninsular Sal or Northern Dry Mixed Desidious Forest', these jungles are home to elephants, wild boar, jackals, wild dogs, barking deer, sloth bear and many more, all making for great visuals and pictures. More than 200 species of birds are found here including mingratory birds that come from the Himalayan region. A hundred species of butterflies have been observed too. Safaris are conducted into the forests, with elephant hide outs, forest guest houses and trekking paths allow for beautiful immersive experiences.
Palna Dam
About 20 minutes away before reaching Chandil Dam from Ranchi, is the Palna Village – with a rustic charm, filled with agricultural lands and friendly villagers going about their chores. The Palna Dam road from National Highway 43 is a narrow strip well paved but strewn with red mud, at once signifying the fertility of the soil, and also lies in contrast to interesting bright colours on doors and walls of houses. The road winds up towards the embankment of the Palna Reservoir, a vast lake surrounded by low lying mountains on the far side, with a driveway hugging the lakeside all across, offering great panoramic views of the lake. On the other side, distant views of green hues comprising small hills and hamlets interspersed with huge trees is calming. The quietness adding to the overall charm. Villagers use the waters of the reservoir built across the Subamarekha river sustainably for various purposes, and are more than happy to share information with travellers. Walking through the villages here, and taking in the sights, sounds and smell of authentic rural atmosphere is a trip far away from the everyday monotony of everyday life. This is an ideal place for village walks, and cycling activity. "
Jayda Temple
This is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is one of Jharkhand's most visited pilgrim sites. The 'Tusu' festival in April attracts travellers in large numbers and caters to the local tourism centers nearby.
Patkum Museum
Patkum Museum is built on the hill top of the Sheesh Mahal next to the Chandil Dam. During the later construction stage of Chandil Dam, in the excavation of the year 1990-92, the stone age heritage was found, also artifacts from between 5th to 12th century like stone sculptures, inscriptions etc. have been exhibited. Most of these idols are related to God. In this there are idols of Lord Ganesha, Shiva-Parvati, Nataraja, Parasnath, Vishnu etc. Apart from these, idols of Lord Mahavira associated with Jainism, chakra inscriptions were found. Due to lack of curation and poor maintenance are major challenge.Still many people visit the museum every year, which has a free entry.

Even though the Chandil Dam project resulted in the local community being displaced from their traditional occupation of agriculture, the alternative in fish farming was embraced. This has led to Chandil's sprawling inland waters being the source of fish to many areas nearby. In addition to fresh fish that can be purchased from Chandil Dam, travellers can also savour local fish delicacies from the many dhabas and eateries nearby.

When to Go
Typically, winters are cold and summers are hot. The best time to visit Chandil is between October and March. Bird and animal sightings are more common during the hot summer months.
What to Pack
Comfortable walking shoes, light clothes are recommended along with sun creams. When on a safari to the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, it is recommended to wear light coloured clothing (avoid bright colors), fully covered shoes and camps.
Events/Festivals
Tusu Mela
This festival is mostly seen nearby to Dam side, Jayda Mandir of Chandil Area. This belt has a great history during India’s Independence movement. Tusu is a harvest festival held during the winter in the last day of Poush month (14-15th January).It is also for the unmarried girls. Girls decorate wooden/bamboo frame with coloured paper and then gift it to the nearby hilly river. Although there is no documented history available on this festival but it has huge collection of scintillating songs full of life and taste. These songs reflect the simplicity and innocence of the tribal people.
Baha Bonga Festival
"Baha is holi played with pure water. Girls and women belonging to the tribal communities celebrate Baha by singing and dancing to the accompaniment of tribal percussion instruments and wearing traditional attire. Offerings are made to god to seek blessings. Baha dance is performed to signify the message of unity. Women celebrate Baha with traditional flair by wearing flower ring on their forehead.
Sarhul
It is a tribal festival celebrated by the indigenous people of Jharkhand, including the Oraon and Munda tribes. It is a three day spring festival (March or April) that mark the beginning of the agricultural season. People worship nature and seek blessings for a bountiful harvest. Sarhul involves singing, dancing and traditional rituals. It is a symbol of the start of the New Year.
Karma Puja
It is another important tribal festival celebrated by the Adivasi communities in Chandil. It is a festival of fertility and is associated with agriculture. People perform various rituals and dances during this festival. This puja is typically celebrated during the auspicious time of the karam month, which usually falls in the Hindu months of Bhadrapada (August-September) or Aswin (September-October). A significant aspect of the Karma puja is traditional tribal dance hand music. People gather around Karam Tree and perform energetic folk dances, accompanied by drumming and other musical instruments. The dances are a way to express joy and seek blessings for a prosperous future.
Chandil Dam standing on the Subarnarekha River is a place of scenic beauty. This dam is one of the most visited places of jharkhand. The museum located close to the Chandil dam has scripts written on rocks,which are 2000 years old.
The multi-purpose chandil dam was built across the meeting place of both the rivers. The dam is 220 meter in height and the height of its water level is 190 meter from different places tourists coming from different parts of the country enjoy boating and the natural beauty in and around the dam.Chandil is famous for its importance in the field of tourism. The River Swarnarekha flows through this region. The Karkori River originating from the Hundru falls mingles with the Swarnarekha River here at chandil.
Chhath Puja
It is one of the most important festivals celebrated in Chandil and throughout the state of Jharkhand. It is dedicated to the worship of the Sun God and is celebrated with great fervor by the people of the region. Devotees offer prayers of the Sun god and perform rituals at the banks of rivers or ponds, seeking blessings for well-being and prosperity.
