The town of Dumka is fenced by thr beautiful Hizla Pahar. A tribal fair known as the State Tribal Hizla Mela Festival is conducted every year in the month of February here.Hizla Mela was started by British District Magistrate John Roberts Casteres with an objective to understand the local traditions, customs and social regulation.The Jharkhand government decided to commemorate this fair as a festival in 2008 and in 2015, this fair was given the status of the state fair.
The fair speaks volume about the tribal culture and traditions.
